REGULATION

1. PROGRAM

The Competition articulates on three stages: preliminary round, semi-final and final. For each stage, competitors will have to play the following program:

PRELIMINARY ROUND – c.15’ *

1. S. Bach – a free choice of one of the following compositions (from Wohltemperierte Klavier 1st Book):

  • Prelude and Fugue VII
    OR
  • Prelude and Fugue XX
    OR
  • Prelude and Fugue XXIV

2. Ph. E. Bach – a free choice of oneof the following compositions (from Clavier-Sonaten und freye Fantasien nebst einigen Rondos fürs Forte-Piano für Kenner und Liebhaber )

  • Rondo in A major ( 4, Wq 58)
    OR
  • Rondo in C minor (vol. 5, Wq 59)
    OR
  • Rondo in D minor (vol. 6, Wq 60)

* The participants will have to perform these pieces on the Pianoforte Johann Gottfried Silbermann made available by the organization (see also 9. Musical instruments).

SEMI-FINAL ROUND – c. 25’ *

1. A. Mozart – a free choice of oneof the following compositions:

  • Sonata in D major KV 284 (205b) Allegro – Rondeau en Polonaise – Thema con variazioni
    OR
  • Sonata in C major KV 309 (284b) Allegro con spirito – Andante un poco adagio – Rondeau, allegretto grazioso
    OR
  • Sonata en D major KV 311 (284c) Allegro con spirito – Andante con espressione – Rondeau, allegro

2. Clementi – A free choice of oneof the following compositions (from Gradus ad Parnassum op. 44):

  • Exercise n. 5 in B flat major Andante, quasi Allegretto, con espressione
    OR
  • Exercise n. 14 in F major Adagio sostenuto

3. G.G.Ferrari (compulsory) from: Trois Sonate pour le Piano forte … dédiée a Muzio Clementi:

  • Sonata op. 9 n. 1 in Fa major Spiritoso – Thema con variazioni, Andantino

* The participants will have to perform these pieces on the Pianoforte pianoforte Johann Andreas Stein or Anton Walter made available by the organization (see also 9. Musical instruments)

FINAL ROUND *

1. A free choice of one of the following compositions:

  • Giacomo Gotifredo Ferrari,Sonate in A minor op. 9 n°3 (Spiritoso – Thema con variazioni, Andantino)
    OR
  • Muzio Clementi, Sonata op. 13 n° 6 in Fa minor (Allegro agitato – Largo e sostenuto – Presto)
    OR
  • Joseph Haydn, Sonata in E flat major Hob. XVI/49 (Allegro – Adagio e cantabile – Finale, tempo di menuetto)
    OR
  • Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Sonata op.13 in E flat major (Allegro con brio – Adagio con gran espressione – Finale, allegro con spirito)
    OR
  • Ludwig van Beethoven, Sonata op.2 n.2 in A major (Allegro vivace – Largo appassionato – Scherzo, allegretto – Rondo, grazioso)

2. Compulsory:

  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Concerto in C major KV 415 (Version for Piano & String Quintet, Allegro – Andante – Allegro)

*The participants will have to perform these pieces on the Pianoforte pianoforte Johann Andreas Stein or Anton Walter made available by the organization (see also 11. Musical instruments) – The organization provides the Finalists soloists from Baroque Orchestra of Central Europe (string quintet).

It is NOT obligatory to play the programs from memory.

2. SCHEDULE

The competition will take place from Tuesday 16 to Sunday 21 October

  • Preliminary round: Tuesday 16 and  Wednesday 17 October
  • Semi-final round:  Thursday 18 October
  • Rehearsal of finalists with orchestra Friday 19 October
  • Final with orchestra: Saturday 20 October
  • Prizes Award Ceremony: Sunday 21 October

All rounds are open to the public.
All rounds will be held in the form of a concert.
The competitors are not entitled to a fee.
The individual schedule will be forwarded to each competitor within 8 October 2018.

3. PRIZES

First Prize

  • Money prize of 2.000 EUR.
  • Concerts in some of the musical festivals listed in the Artistic Patronage of the Premio Ferrari (see below 13. Artistic Patronage).
  • Recommendation to REMA (Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne).

Second Prize

  • Money prize of 1.500 EUR.
  • Concerts in some of the musical festivals listed in the Artistic Patronage of the Premio Ferrari (see below).

Third Prize

  • Money prize of 1.000 EUR.
  • Concerts in some of the musical festivals listed in the Artistic Patronage of the Premio Ferrari (see below).

Special Award “Museo del Pianorte Antico – Ala”

  • 500 EUR for the best competitor voted by the Jury

Special Audience Award “Rovereto Città della Pace”

  • 500 EUR for the best competitor selected by the audience at the Final.

The First prize is indivisible. The Jury may decide not to assign one or more prizes.
Prizes may be assigned only to participants admitted to the final round of the competition, except for the Special Award “Museo del Pianoforte Antico”.

4. ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

The competition is open to all musicians born after 15 October 1984.

5. APPLICATION

Registration  must be made exclusively by filling the online form available on this site within 8 October 2018

Withinthe same date must send to the competition Secretariat one or more files in free text format or Microsoft Word format (.doc) containing the following information:

  • The program choice for all competition stages (preliminary round, semi-final, final).
  • Curriculum vitae (max 10 lines).
  • An artistic photo (jpg format).
  • Scan of the registration fee receipt (in jpg or pdf format).
  • Scan of the identity card or passport (in jpg or pdf format).
  • All the scores (in pdf) of the submitted program (except those of G. G. Ferrari and Piano Concert of W.A. Mozart)

6. REGISTRATION FEE

A registration fee of 150 EUR per participant must be sent to the Organising Secretariat via bank transfer to the following account:

7. DEADLINE

The deadline for the submission of the application files (see 7.) and for the payment of the registration fee (see 8.) is 8 October 2018.

8. SCORES

The scores for all music by Giacomo Gotifredo Ferrari can be downloaded from the Premio Ferrari’s website

9. MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

The following instruments will be at the disposal of the participants for the competition:

  • Preliminary Round: One fortepiano copy of Silbermann
  • Semifinal and Final: One 5-octaves (F-F) fortepiano copy of Stein and One 5½-octaves (F-C) fortepiano copy of Walter

The Preliminary Round will be played on the Silberman instrument only

The Semi-final and Final Rounds can be played on a free combination of the two instruments, upon choice of the competitors.

11. CONTROVERSY

All participants accept the present regulation.

There is no appeal against the decisions of the Jury.

The organisation may decide to make minor changes to the present regulation without prior notice.

The Rovereto Court of Law will be competent for any legal controversy.
